Our Story

About Oregon Massage & Spa Newberg

Serving the Newberg community and Yamhill County wine country since 2008 with professional, compassionate massage therapy.

What Massage Therapy Is — and What the Evidence Shows

Massage therapy is the hands-on manipulation of the body's soft tissues — muscle, tendon, and connective tissue — to manage a health condition or support general wellness. At Oregon Massage & Spa in Newberg, a standard session runs 60 or 90 minutes and starts at $60 (a 60-minute massage is $85), and it is always performed by a therapist licensed through the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists. We have practiced this way since 2008, and our 4.8-star rating from more than 558 reviews reflects it.

Massage is no longer a fringe choice. National survey data cited by the NIH's National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health show that 10.9% of U.S. adults used massage therapy in 2022 — more than double the 4.8% who did in 2002. The research is measured but real: a 2015 Cochrane review found that massage may provide short-term relief from low-back pain, a 2014 randomized trial of 228 people with chronic neck pain found 60-minute sessions given multiple times a week worked better than shorter or fewer ones, and a 2017 review of 7 trials with 352 arthritis patients found massage reduced pain and improved function. We follow this evidence honestly — research suggests massage may help, especially in the short term, and we never promise a cure.

Beyond pain, the wellness case is strong. The American Massage Therapy Association position statement reports that research links massage to lower anxiety and depression, reduced blood pressure and heart rate, decreased pain, better range of motion, and improved sleep quality. That maps closely to why our Newberg neighbors actually book — to decompress after a hard week, to move more freely, and to recover from injury. If you want a deeper comparison of techniques, our guide on deep tissue versus Swedish massage breaks down which modality fits which goal.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

A first session is straightforward. Here is the order it usually follows so there are no surprises.

  1. Arrive 5 to 10 minutes early and share your goals, problem areas, and any health conditions with your licensed therapist.
  2. Your therapist sets pressure and focus to match your body — you stay covered by a sheet at all times and only the area being worked on is exposed.
  3. You receive your 60- or 90-minute treatment in a quiet, warm room; tell your therapist anytime if pressure should change.
  4. Afterward, drink water, move gently, and book a follow-up if you are addressing a chronic issue, since the neck-pain research above favors regular sessions over one-offs.

Massage is a complement to medical care, not a replacement for it. If you are pregnant, have a blood-clotting disorder, are recovering from surgery, or manage a chronic condition, tell us before you book so we can adapt the session safely. New to all of this? A Newberg Tradition Since 2008

Oregon Massage & Spa was founded in 2008 with a simple mission: to bring exceptional, therapeutic massage to the Newberg community. What started as a small practice has grown into one of the most trusted wellness destinations in Yamhill County, serving thousands of clients from Newberg, Dundee, McMinnville, Sherwood, and across the Willamette Valley.

Located at 901 Brutscher St 208 (second floor), in Newberg, our studio sits at the gateway to Oregon wine country. We are proud to be part of this vibrant community, supporting local events, partnering with area healthcare providers, and helping our neighbors live healthier, more comfortable lives through the power of professional massage therapy.

Over the years, we have expanded our services to include everything from classic Swedish and deep tissue massage to specialized treatments like prenatal massage, medical massage, and auto accident injury rehabilitation. No matter what brings you through our doors, you can expect the same personalized attention and skilled care that has defined our practice for more than a decade.

Massage Therapy: Common Questions

Does massage therapy actually have research behind it?

Yes, for several conditions. The NIH's National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health reports that evidence points toward a beneficial effect on pain and other symptoms, and that 10.9% of U.S. adults used massage therapy in 2022. The evidence is strongest for short-term relief of low-back and chronic neck pain; for headaches it is described as preliminary. We keep our claims in line with what the science actually shows.

How long is a typical session and what does it cost?

Most appointments are 60 or 90 minutes. Swedish and deep tissue massage start at $60 (a 60-minute session is $85), prenatal starts at $110, and our 75-minute Reflexology Foot & Body Combo is $110. Couples sessions start at $170. Medical visits are typically a $15–$36 copay, and auto-accident visits are billed through Oregon PIP rather than out of pocket.

Are your therapists licensed?

Every session is performed by a massage therapist licensed through the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists. Oregon requires board licensure to practice, which means coursework, a hands-on exam, and continuing education. NCCIH notes that massage therapy appears to have few risks when performed by a trained practitioner.

Is massage safe for everyone?

For most healthy adults the risk of harm is low, but it is not right for every situation. Tell your therapist about pregnancy, blood clots, recent surgery, or skin conditions before you book. For medical concerns, massage should complement, not replace, care from your doctor.
